TytoCare Earns FDA De Novo OK for AI-Powered Eardrum Analysis

TytoCare has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) de novo classification for the first model of Tyto Insights for ENT Suite. According to the company, this marks creation of a new regulatory category for artificial intelligence (AI)-powered ENT image analysis.

The company has established a first-of-its-kind classification for an “ear, nose, and throat image analyzer.” TytoCare addes a new layer to the tool, which leverages AI to analyze otoscopy video recordings of the eardrum to help detect eardrum bulging, a common sign in acute otitis media and other conditions.

Tyto Insights for ENT Suite automatically detects eardrum bulging in otoscopic video recordings captured with TytoCare’s compatible digital endoscope. The tool is meant for patients six months and older and provides results as a clinical support tool, as well as informing patients about their condition.

The company’s proprietary database of 1.6 million ear images and recordings allowed development of Tyto Insights for ENT Suite.

TytoCare said combining its connected otoscope with AI-driven analysis enables consistent identification of eardrum bulging. Accurately spotting eardrum bulging allows for less unnecessary antibiotic usage and can reduce occasions of delayed treatment.

The company is also bolstering its Smart Clinic Companion with new Smart Checkup capabilities. This provides patients with insights on their lung and ear exams, leveraging Tyto Insights Lung Suite and ENT Suite. TytoCare said Smart Checkup was engineered to support patients with more understanding and informed decision-making, as well as grow engagement with their clinicians and healthcare journey.

In October, the company began a partnership with Frontier Health to offer a virtual extension of Frontier Health’s Direct Primary Care offering. Frontier Health is a Texas-based direct primary care organization with nine brick-and-mortar locations and over 30,000 contracted members across the United States.
